CAA certified operator
Volcanic Air is a Civil Aviation Authority certified operator and has been flying in this region for over 30 years. Every flight is run to New Zealand Civil Aviation standards.
Qualmark Gold
Qualmark is Tourism New Zealand's official quality assurance system. Its assessment covers three pillars — Safe & Sound, Light Footprint, and Warm Welcome — and Volcanic Air holds a Gold rating.
Independent maintenance
Fleet maintenance schedules comply with New Zealand Civil Aviation safety standards, and the work is carried out by Rotorcraft Helicopter Support and Argus Aviation Ltd.
Real-time tracking
Every aircraft in the fleet is fitted with a real-time satellite tracking system, so each flight is monitored from take-off to landing.
Before you fly
- A full safety briefing at the Volcanic Air base before every departure.
- Safety equipment issued and fitted by your pilot.
- All passengers are weighed, so the aircraft is loaded within its balance limits.
- Noise-reducing headsets for every seat, keeping you in contact with your pilot throughout.
Weather comes first
Flights are weather dependent, and we would rather move a booking than fly in conditions we are not happy with. If the weather turns, our team will work with you to reschedule or refund. Tour duration, flight times and inclusions may vary due to weather conditions, volcanic activity and passenger loadings.
Want to talk safety?
Nervous flyer, travelling within the next 24 hours, want to talk through weather, safety concerns or a specific requirement before flying or booking?
